A virtual talk show titled "Role of Academia making Student life-Ready" was hosted by Daffodil International University in collaboration with the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) & Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) on September 22, 2020. The program was simultaneously LIVE from the university's Facebook page and Campus TV.

Professor Alberto Zucconi, Chairman of the Board, World Academy of Art and Science; Dr. Pornchai Mongkhonvanit, President, SIAM University, Thailand; Dr. Andy Pusca, Rector, Danubius University of Galati, Romania; M. Chandrasekaran, Senior Project Manager, Social Science Research, The Mother's Service Society, India and Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Founder & Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University were the resource persons of the e-talk show.

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan said that one of the core responsibilities of educational institutions is to prepare students for the future.Due to technological changes the ways people interact, socialize, and work are shifting rapidly. The current corona crisis brings extensive change to our life and job. It makes us believe that we should rethink the role of academia in the face of new normal. Besides making tech-ready & job- ready educational institutions must put effort to make students life-ready, he added. He also stressed that Educational institutions must create a culture that ensures their students are healthy and safe (both physically and emotionally), engaged, supported, and challenged so that they can develop essential life skills to cope up with unforeseen situations & changes.

Professor Alberto Zucconi said, the university is an open space where students can discover and develop their skills. The teachers help them in this work. As a result, the future life of a student is formed by the combination of students and teachers. He added that the job of the university is to prepare the students for the future life. It is very important that the main responsibility of the university is to see if the students are able to make their life by developing their skills.

Dr. Pornchai Mongkhonvanit said that the world of the 21st century has completely changed. We need to prepare students to adapt to this changing world. The role of the university is not only to teach books, but also to impart knowledge that is useful in real life.

Mentioning the experience of his organization, Dr. Andy Pusca said, “We’ve been teaching through online at our institution for about ten years. So in this pandemic situation our students did not face any problem taking online class. This is how we prepare our students for the future. We think it is the job of the university to prepare students for the future.

Abstract: In this society, we all have a general idea about academia being  related to working life which ultimately shapes our future. But in reality academia in society is considered to be similar to the role of positive emotions in people. It enhances a positive mindset amongst people which promotes development of your personal skills. In this pandemic situation the world is facing a growing economic crisis. It will haunt us for years if we don't enhance the repertoire of possible actions of a system and integrate these possibilities in a comprehensible way.

DIU Starts Virtual ISBSP-2020 with Extensive Global Presence

DIU is hosting Virtual ISBSP=2020
 

With the motto "New Minds for New World" Daffodil International University, Bangladesh is hosting the 4th edition of the Virtual International Social Business Summer Program (ISBSP) 2020 in collaboration with Yunus Centre which has started on 20th July and will continue till 25th July. 100+ participants from 45 universities & 24 countries across Asia, Europe & Africa have joined this year's Virtual ISBSP-2020 to exclusively learn and develop social business plans those may help to overcome the post-COVID-19 challenges.

At the Opening Ceremony of the program, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Founder and Chairman, DIU, Ms. Lamiya Morshed, Executive Director, Yunus Centre joined to welcome global participants. Being the active partners of DIU and ISBSP-2020, Professor Dr. Ricardo P. Pama, Secretary-General, Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) and Dr. Pinar Elbasan, General Coordinator, Eurasian Universities Union (EURAS) delivered their greetings toward the global participants of Virtual ISBSP-2020. Some of the other partners are YouThink Centre, Asia Technological University Network (ATU - Net), YSBC, National Central University Taiwan, YSBC of DIU & Social Business Students Forum (SBSF).

The Daffodil International University Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship (DIUJBE), ISSN 2664-3413 (PRINT), 2664-3421 (ONLINE) Vol. 13, No. 1, 2020, is going to be published shortly. DIUJBE is a multidisciplinary academic journal aimed at the faculty members, research students, managers and research and policy-making community from Bangladesh and overseas. We welcome academic writings that would enhance our understanding of the world of business, recognizing that the business world is an interactive arena for different disciplines. DIUJBE is committed to publishing high quality original works from academicians, business specialists and economists; and solicits original high quality paper(s) from them. IIE Launches Special Emergency Student Fund Effort to Respond to Crises


Nomination Deadline: February 19, 2020 at 11:59pm EST

IIE's Emergency Student Fund is expanding its efforts to support international students currently studying at colleges and universities in the United States who have been affected by recent crises. IIE has a long history of providing emergency assistance to students and the Emergency Student Fund was established to provide financial support to students who are at risk of dropping out of their studies due to natural disaster, armed conflict, or political strife in their home countries.
 
The Emergency Student Fund supports students whose ability to continue their studies in the current academic year is affected by particular crises and natural disasters. We are requesting applications from accredited U.S. institutions for students from:
  • Australia: Students from the states of New South Wales and Victoria whose ability to pay for their education in the United States is affected by the brushfires in those states in December and January.
  • China: Students from Hubei Province whose ability to pay for their education in the United States is affected by the outbreak of coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Students from other parts of China with demonstrable needs related to this coronavirus outbreak may also be considered.
  • Philippines: Students from Luzon whose ability to pay for their education in the United States is affected by volcanic activity from Taal Volcano.
  • Turkey: Students from Elazig and Malatya provinces whose ability to pay for their education in the United States is affected by the earthquake that struck near Sivrice on January 24.
Additional countries and regions may be added to this call for nominations as circumstances dictate.
 
This effort will provide one-time grants of $2,000 - $5,000 to selected students whose ability to pay for their spring 2020 semester in the United States is in jeopardy due to serious financial difficulties related to these crises. Funds can be used to cover tuition, room and board, books, and related costs, but should not be used to support families in home countries or for travel.
 
Students must be nominated by their U.S. college or university for this opportunity and cannot apply on their own behalf. Accredited U.S. campuses are invited to nominate up to 10 students in total for whom help is needed to complete the spring 2020 semester. Nominating institutions are expected to provide additional emergency assistance to nominated students.

Thomas Jefferson Fund 2020 Proposal Open


Created by the Embassy of France in the United States and the FACE foundation, the Thomas Jefferson Fund  supports cooperation among the most promising early-career researchers in France and the United States and fosters forward-looking collaborative research that addresses the most pressing global challenges. The Thomas Jefferson Fund aims to encourage innovative research of the highest quality and new collaborations, and especially seeks to support projects involving young researchers.

Who Can Apply?
The Fund considers projects jointly submitted by two scientists at the beginning of their careers, including notably:
  • On the American side, researchers at the post-doctorate level, assistant or associate professors at a university in the United States are eligible.
  • On the French side, researchers at the post-doctorate level, maîtres de conferences and chargés de recherche at a French institution of higher education and research are eligible.
  • Given individual career paths, other statuses can be considered as long as the researchers are still at the beginning of their career
Projects that include significant transatlantic mobility, collaborative research activities, the organization of joint workshops or conferences, the publication of joint articles will receive the highest priority.

Scholarships for Incoming Researchers in Poland


Proposal Deadline: April 15, 2020

Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) is pleased to announce the second edition of the programme for post-doctoral incoming researchers: The Ulam Programme. They invite you to be a part of this unique and valuable experience which will help you to develop your career by intensifying international mobility as well as will allow you to establish scientific cooperation with excellent host institutions in Poland.
 
The Ulam Programme will allow both recognised and promising scientists with at least the doctoral degree, to visit Poland in order to strengthen the scientific potential of Polish entities and to participate in their scientific activities, primarily research projects and didactics. The programme invites scientists from all around the world representing all fields of science to the Polish institutions of science and higher education.

Visits within the Ulam Programme can last from 6 to 24 months. The Programme provides financing for a scholarship covering both the Beneficiary's allowance costs in relation to their stay at a host institution, in an amount of approx. 2400 EUR a month and a mobility allowance.

SUT Celebrates Chinese New Year 2020

The Center for International Affairs at Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, hosted a celebration for Chinese New Year 2020 for Chinese students in Academic Building 2, Learning Space@C2. The event atmosphere brought joy and happiness to Chinese students who were not able to be with their families in China on this special occasion.

Congratulations Professor Eskandari

Dr. Prof. Li Chenyang, Vice President of Yunnan University, the Belt and Road Initiative Institute, the People's Republic of China, has appointed Abdolmajid Eskandari, Director General, Office of International Relations, University of Tehran, I.R. of Iran to be an Overseas Research Fellow, based on the assessment of his outstanding achievements on the Belt and Road Initiatives, culture and language, and his continuous efforts to strengthen the academic ties between China and Iran.
